MONOPRINT WORKSHOP
A print is made by using a printing plate or surface; paint or ink; paper; and pressure by hand rubbing or with a printing press. In most printing processes a series of prints are produced. In monoprinting only one print is made or sometimes a second one called a ghost can be made. This form of printmaking is very immediate and easy enough for children to do.
The plate is usually a piece of acrylic but many other products may be used including glass if pressure is applied by hand and not a press. A variety of paints or inks may be used and applied with a roller, brush or even a sponge. Once the print is made, it may be enhanced by working into it with ink, pastels, crayons etc. You may collage and stencil on it as well as print over it one or more times. Monoprinting provides an extremely creative way to make art. It is full of unexpected surprises and happy accidents. The techniques that can be used are almost endless.
I give workshops for groups, if you provide the space. All the materials are included except for some things that students are asked to bring if they have them. The workshop is an intensive 6 hours long (9:30 to 3:30). Minimum number of students is 6 and maximum number is 10.
The cost is $75 per person. I usually limit my driving time to about 45 minutes from my home.
